Foyles

Though founded in 1903 by brothers William & Gilbert Foyle, it was not until 1906 that Foyles arrived on Charing Cross Road, where they quickly became widely celebrated for their breadth of range and almost labyrinthine experience, from books piled up to the ceiling, to the three-queue paying system, to the cast of characters wandering amongst its shelves. Today, the flagship store has had a bit of a makeover, but its five floors, over 200,000 titles and incredibly knowledgeable staff still provide an unparalleled book buying experience. Foyles also has smaller branches across Central London and in Bristol, and a website where you can order any book in print, an extensive range of eBooks and out-of-print titles, and reserve books for collection instore.

Foyles was named both National and Children’s Bookseller of the Year at the Bookseller Industry Awards 2012.
